Thanks and Congratulations
While the “Ernie Berger for Mayor” campaign did not make the runoff election, we clearly had an impact. In addition to introducing campaign innovations such as Web-based video coverage of the candidates’ public forums and our official campaign snack, the “Ernie Burger,” on Aug. 26 almost a thousand Daphne citizens cast their votes for vigorous and balanced pro-business, pro-environment, pro-education and quality of life growth for Daphne, all underpinned by a 10-year strategic vision and plan and supported by a transparent and understandable city budget. During their runoff campaigns, Mayor Fred Small and former Mayor Harry Brown both emphasized the need for a strategic vision and stronger planning and budgeting. All Daphne citizens clearly see these as critical parts of our future. I want to thank everyone who supported my campaign with time, energy, enthusiasm, contributions - and your vote! You worked hard to run a high-value, ethical and issue-oriented campaign. You are special folks and I love you all for your commitment to a better Daphne. I now ask all my supporters to put the politics of the election aside and stand with Mayor Fred Small and his team as they lead our city for the next four years through some pretty challenging times. Your continued involvement as citizens will define Daphne as the largest and fastest-growing city in Baldwin County. Mayor (and now Mayor-elect) Small, I look forward to supporting you and your administration as you lead Daphne forward with thoughtful strategic planning, fiscal transparency and discipline. You have my sincere congratulations on your victory. ERNEST L. BERGER |
